Loneliness is a Mirror

I have been looking for it
The redemption in the brokenness
That seems to shadow your life
To understand the reasons
Behind your actions and decisions
I have been seeing it
The secrets you can't hide
Whispering in the wind
Covering up the cold truth
Trapped within your conscience
I have been hating it
The lies that shape your being
A lonely soul clinging to false hope
Avoiding the mirror
That recognizes what it doesn't want to see

Church Companion

His absence she feels
Her husband who isn't there
Sitting in the pew
She offers up a prayer
To Him on her other side

Hope

She didn't tell him what she was thinking
It seemed insignificant anyway,
To remind him of what he's not bringing,
While her love for him keeps weakening,
And keeps pushing her farther away.
For it finally did die today,
Found courage to be not afraid,
Lost moments in eyes unsmiling,
New plans will be carefully laid.
For her needs she will gladly trade,
For the hope she is now aborting,
Her heart to him she would have bade,
Clinging to the love they had made.
For this love lost in dark abandoning,
A different time when she might have stayed,
If she thought he would have been trying,
She'd stand with him another day.
But she can't stop the tears she keeps crying,
While her thoughts go unsaid, now breaking,

Games

You know these games you play,
They aren't for your victory.
Stubborn pride will drive you
To fracture this heart in me.
The sands of time will fall
Covering the truth they can't see.
Beside the lies you try to hide,
And warnings you refuse to heed.
But one day I will forfeit the game,
From you I will finally be free.
You'll slip on the sand all around you,
And in your life all alone you will be.

Blind Beliefs

Every time I come here,
The memory clouds the sky.
I feel unsettled when I leave.
It's not the rain at all I fear.
Or words you will live by,
Or the differences we all believe.
The joy loses itself as I hear
Conversations on my lips that die,
Unfitting to the words you will weave,
But recollections I hold so dear.
Lie suppressed as low as the high,
As the distance creeps closer and near.
You don't see the trend and where,
The rain's presence or why.
Those clouds don't disappear,
It's why I can no longer come here,
It's why I must say goodbye.
Heed these words and beware,
For now I no longer even care.

Truth

Together, alone, and mostly apart
We go in and out through our days
Connecting only now and again
As the past we once had will still fade
Malice has no place in our homes
Yet you will poke the hornet nest in the tree
And misjudge what you want to believe
Casting doubt for others to see
That the stones you have thrown will fall
By the ditch where I fell and now lay
Will uncloud my mind to the truth
That wasn't real at all yesterday
Perhaps your vision is a sign
It defines the person I see
I'm nothing of value to you
As ever you don't want me to be

Justification

What are you trying to prove?
What good does it do for you?
To continue this story of sorrow
Doing things you shouldn't do
As if confession should be enough
To justify it all in your mind
You can mark the hands of time
And believe it is not at all love
But close your eyes each night
Convince yourself nothing is wrong
While your life unravels some more
Tell yourself it will be alright
But the guilt, it will not subside
The argument will always be there
Turmoil that bruises your heart
An affair from which you can't hide
Where do you think it will lead?
Why keep watering the seed?
To nurture something that is wrong
It will never set you free

Broken Songs

She tried to explain it to him
But he just couldn't understand
Or why she didn't want to
Just grab a hold of his hand
This feeling that she felt
Was like carefully walking along
And suddenly a trap door opens
Where she falls where she doesn't belong
And the sounds that now surround her
Echo pains of everything wrong
And the only sense it makes
Amounts to words in broken songs
Broken songs
Broken songs
Her world felt like just another
Broken song
With him it has always been
A broken song
He knew that if she would only
grab onto his hand
And allow herself to be pulled
She'd hear what he always knew
That the brokenness was beautiful

Clouded Judgment

Standing there in the dark
One foot stepped over the line
You will boldly still embark
So fragile is your hurt heart
It's a risk you take each time
And it will set you from others apart
Unaware of the picture's mark
And that it all is really not fine
Too late to stop what you start
Keeping score on your personal chart
Hoping he'll see you shine
Unaware of the mounting charge
Causing others to question this entourage
That it is "off" and wrong of its kind
Not invisible even near or afar
Watching you there as you are
I fear for what they might find
You see, they are not at all blind
