Secrets and Monsters

Your secrets are casting the shadows
As you let yourself in the door,
Your fairy tale comes to life.
And your footprints are on the floor.

You know the walls can't talk
Hours spent together night after night.
You've got this down to routine,
A scandal you think is your right.

What you don't know is that you can't see
What is stirring in that darkness.
Some tales are riddled with monsters,
And they'll thrive among all the madness.

You can sweep up the prints on the floor,
And believe that nothing will show.
But the reality is exposed in those shadows:
It's not a secret if somebody knows.

Proverbs Thirty Twenty

There's a candle in the window
And it is only partially hidden.
The glow of its light casts your shadows,
And the Bible as its truth is so written.
It doesn't matter the version in print,
Or verse meanings you'll alter in spinning.
The tracks you try to cover still leave the hint.
This is the way of an adulterous woman.

As the candle burns down to the wick,
You will read about what's right and so wrong,
And your house of sins, mortar and brick
Betray the litany of lies we knew all along.
The Book is burning beside the candle,
And still you can't see what doesn't belong.
She eats, wipes her mouth, and says,
" I have done no wrong. I have done no wrong."

The Truth

Tell them all I told the truth.
Say I collected all their lies.
Witnessing the crime that neither party will end,
If you're asked how you know about it again.
Tell them I've washed my hands of this masquerade,
And that none of us was ever blind.

Just don't cover up the truth,
Or let them walk away unscathed.
Tell them if they knew what respect was
They'd want to choose it over attention.
Yeah they would choose it over attention.

Tell them all I blew the whistle,
Blowing every cover they ever made.
Tell them that I opened every blind and shade,
And their spotlight has begun to fade.
Tell them there are copies in their bosses hands,
Who will surely do with them what they can.

The truth is that I really would rather have died,
Than to carry their sins with mine.
If there are morals and justice in this world,
I had no choice than to let it unfurl.

Tell them to have some respect.
Just don't cover up the truth,
Yeah don't cover up the truth.
Now you have our attention,
Yeah you have our attention.
I have caught you.
It's the end of your masquerade.
