You think you have it figured out,
Holding your heart in your hands,
Tossing misinterpreted words about.
You hide behind your self imposed clout,
Choosing to deny where you will stand,
And remain anonymous amid the shouts
Of your passive aggressive doubt,
Among others who are in your camp,
Who know not what your real fight is about.
Your reasons you will to them not allow,
Because it is your weapon and only clamp
To be able to justify why and how
You can cut one down and cause a fallout,
Because they refuse to want to understand
Your manipulation of the truth then or now.
You think you have it figured out,
Ready to snap like a rubber band,
But thinking you've hidden your self doubt
Behind transparent words choking in your mouth

Standing there in the dark
One foot stepped over the line
You will boldly still embark
So fragile is your hurt heart
It's a risk you take each time
And it will set you from others apart
Unaware of the picture's mark
And that it all is really not fine
Too late to stop what you start
Keeping score on your personal chart
Hoping he'll see you shine
Unaware of the mounting charge
Causing others to question this entourage
That it is "off" and wrong of its kind
Not invisible even near or afar
Watching you there as you are
I fear for what they might find
You see, they are not at all blind

The doubt that you carry
Found not near me
Has only created fragments
Of who we are to be
You will question my actions
In the midst of a great loss
So I question your insecurity
Even though I see its cause
You let your heart bleed
Keep putting Band-Aids on your soul
Thinking when I stand beside you
Is when you can be whole
Fragments that weigh heavy
Taking space reserved for love
Scattered all around us
As they fall from up above
This doubt is everywhere
Now permeating you and me
The box of Band-Aids is empty
And together we are not free
