What are you trying to prove?
What good does it do for you?
To continue this story of sorrow
Doing things you shouldn't do
As if confession should be enough
To justify it all in your mind
You can mark the hands of time
And believe it is not at all love
But close your eyes each night
Convince yourself nothing is wrong
While your life unravels some more
Tell yourself it will be alright
But the guilt, it will not subside
The argument will always be there
Turmoil that bruises your heart
An affair from which you can't hide
Where do you think it will lead?
Why keep watering the seed?
To nurture something that is wrong
It will never set you free

Justification

Staying and Going
I’m here where I belong
And I’m not there where I should be
Tethered to this book we write
Whose pages are torn and incomplete
Like a diary that nobody should see
Whose meaning you will make your own
Erasing what really matters
While casting too many stones
Heavy as my heart has become
Weakened to toss them away
So they pile up along the boundaries
Of our life from which we can’t stray
I’m still here where I belong
And from there I still stay gone

Light Reading
They’re just words on paper
That I cannot even read
If the book sits on its shelf
Because you want me here
It’s a fictional world
I can escape to for a while
When my own is as it is
I’m only going a few short miles
But you express your displeasure
That sets the mood for tonight
I can only guess you want me here
So you can start another fight
Rather than let me go
And borrow someone else’s life
If only through a novel
But you hold me in your vice
So rather than read I will write
And share tonight for all to see
This life that no one would want
Unless they would prefer to not be free
